Funeral Consumers Alliance of East Tennessee, Inc.

(formerly the East Tennessee Memorial Society)

The Funeral Consumers Alliance of East Tennessee is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and empowering consumers to make wise choices when planning for funerals or other end-of-life procedures and ceremonies. It does this by:

  • Providing new members with a packet of useful information (the contents are listed below);
  • Surveying East Tennessee funeral homes every two years in every county where there are members to obtain prices for immediate burials and direct cremations, and publishing the results in the annual newsletter that is mailed to all members;
  • Monitoring actions in the Tennessee Legislature that would affect consumer choice in funeral planning;
  • Supporting the Funeral Consumers Alliance (FCA), the largest organization in America fighting for consumers on death-care issues;
  • Enabling member to obtain discounts on books, brochures and videos offered by the FCA;
  • Accepting members transferring from other FCA affiliates;
  • Offering speakers for organizations and community education courses.

The Funeral Consumers Alliance of East Tennessee, a 501(c)(4) non-profit corporation, and registered as a non-profit corporation in the State of Tennessee, serves most of East Tennessee, excepting Chattanooga and Hamilton County. Members of the Board of Directors are elected by the membership at the Annual Meetings, and are volunteers who meet regularly to conduct business. The annual meeting is held in the fall, with the location variously in Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Pleasant Hill, or Fairfield Glade.
