The national Funeral Consumers Alliance (FCA) has a very detailed web page, with information about the history of the movement, information about some of the abuses that gave rise to it, and a page for ordering books, videos and gifts. The Cemetery and Funeral Bureau of the California Department of Consumer Affairs has an on-line CONSUMER GUIDE TO FUNERAL AND CEMETERY PURCHASES. It may also be ordered, free, from the Department, 400 R Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. Att: Funerals.

It contains a glossary of terms, suggestions for families, up-to-date legal information, answers to a host of questions on burial, cremation and other matters of interest to consumers. There are also instructions for filing a complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs.

From time to time, AARP (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons) has current information on the cost of burials and cremation, as well as other resources on grief and loss, preplanning, community resources, getting legal help, and problems with prepayment contracts. The California Medical Association, P.O. Box 7690, San Francisco, CA 94120-7690, 1-800-882-1262, sells a very detailed kit for $5 to guide you through the process of completing an Advance Health Care Directive and selecting an agent to make medical decisions for you when you are unable to make them.

FLICS FLICS International Cinema Society of Bakersfield has long been a supporter of the Funeral Consumers Alliance. They have been bringing the finest international films to Bakersfield since 1983.

Films are shown at the historic Fox Theatre.

Facing Bereavement is a British site with helpful suggestions about such topics as talking to a child about death, bereavement counseling, and dealing with a miscarriage or a murder.
The legal information does not apply in the United States, but the site has information that is useful anywhere.
