Two types of service are available from cooperating funeral directors: cremation and simple burial. In both instances, family may arrange with the funeral director for private viewing of the body if desired and if legal requirements permit. Memorial services soon after disposition of the body may be arranged by the family.
Type I: CREMATION
The funeral director calls for the remains, applies for a death certificate and a cremation permit, places the body in an appropriate container, arranges for expeditious cremation, and disposes of the ashes or returns them to the family for disposition.
Embalming is performed only as required by law or at the discretion of the funeral director, depending on the circumstances of the death. The body is removed to the crematorium in private (no family or friends).
Type II: SIMPLE BURIAL
The funeral director calls for the remains, applies for the death certificate and a burial permit, and embalms the remains, if necessary, to meet legal requirements.
He or she then chooses a simple casket into which to place the body and inters it privately in a burial plot secured by either the deceased or the family. There is no funeral procession or graveside service.
