The FCA has created online forums to encourage discussion and the exchange of ideas and experiences among funeral consumers. Note that you must be a registered user of the site in order to post to the forum threads. To register, visit our home page and click "create an account" on the lower left-hand corner. There's also a Help section in the forums you can click on below.
For those who want a more detailed discussion with funeral consumer advocates and concerned industry people, try our email-based discussion list. To join the list, email: firstname.lastname@example.org. NOTE! - you must put the word gazelle in the subject line (this cuts down on spam-bots trying to join the list).
FCA members Michael Whitman and Chuck Lakin, casket makers in NH and Maine, want to collect and evaluate plans and designs for a casket or coffin that a motivated person can make for someone close, or for themselves.
There are plans for one on Chuck's website, www.lastthings.net/coffins.html ,
and we have found a few more via Google, but we want to get a broader overview.
Do you know of any good plans, particularly one simple enough for anyone to
make, shooting for maximum success on their first project, with simple tools and minimal woodworking experience? We would like to publicize the best among what we find.
Do you know of any woodworkers who would be interested in contributing plans of their own? Or who might be interested to help, like with a second evaluation of a few designs we find promising? Let us know!
Ultimately, we'll offer the results to FCA.
