TOPIC: Positive Networking Workshop Ideas

Positive Networking Workshop Ideas 08 Apr 2008 09:10 #12

At the FCA Conference in Seattle, I'll be presenting a workshop entitled Positive Networking: Energize Your Chapter and Yourself. You can read the full description on the registration form on this site, if you haven't already.
I have my work cut out for me over the next couple of months, as I plan to do much more aggressive marketing and outreach than I've done in the past. It'll be a kind of time-limited, unscientific experiment in just how much can be accomplished, what works and what doesn't.

I'd love to hear from others on this forum - suggestions for building your membership and especially recruiting active and committed board members, relevant research or links - in short, anything you think might be useful. I'll be sure to credit you in the workshop!

I look forward to meeting you there. BTW, I'm administrator for the Memorial Society of the Hudson-Mohawk Region in New York.

Hi, this is Julie again. I'm adding a comment basically to see how this Forum works and to practice navigating around. I see 13 others have read my post - the next trick is to start adding thoughts of your own. Hope to hear from you!

This is Julie yet again. I just set up a signature for myself by going into my profile and wandering around. But I don't see a place to add it. Let's see if it does so automatically.

:cheer: My signature works! Not only that, this program inserted my signature into the posts I'd previously done, and the link to my personal website worked.

There's unlimited potential for building our affiliates when we become comfortable with navigating the web. I'm not a techie, so when trying out new sites like this, I experience moderate anxiety, but it's exciting when they work well! I'll be dealing with this topic to some extent in my workshop.

Hi Julie!

I am excited about attending your Workshop on "Networking." Truly, I am looking to you,
The Expert, as our Board wants the organization to grow and we haven't found any way to grown the Houston organization. Houston is humungous as you may well know. My current ideas--none in print, just my thoughts are to find a way to contact groups, churches ??? to have smaller groups spread out over Houston.

Another thought is to update website to be able to send messages via email to members who have email and also send out our newsletter for those same members with email capability.
Erda Hillman, current President has a lot of energy, but we have no volunteer group--only the Board at present since I've been with them the past couple of years as Newsletter Editor.

I volunteered to do a more graphic (power point) newsletter and it seems to be a way to get more $$$ into the organization as when a newsletter goes out with an envelope, we are getting a lot more money than in the past. We have money to work with, but I need guidance as to where to start slowly as our group is rather conservative.

Julie, please keep this confidential, as I haven't discussed this with the Board---only Erda knows that I want to do something to get a more active organization-hence, the Board financed my registration & R&B to this conference. Basically, I think we need to do something that makes our members notice and exciting enough to get volunteers. Looking forward to getting many ideas from your workshop.

Lena Brooks, VP/Newsletter Editor, Houston, TX

I also went to get acquainted with the theme of the forum. I am interested in the traditions of various countries.
