TOPIC: how to update materials with new URL

how to update materials with new URL 01 Apr 2008 16:06 #3

We have a lot of pamphlets and other items printed with our old URL (funerals.org/fcavbr) and now we have to add /affiliates/fcavbr to it. I guess I will print a lot of labels and stick over the items until they are reprinted. That will look kind of tacky. Is it better to junk them all and just reprint stuff?

Hi Isabel,

As nonprofits, I think we're allowed to pinch a penny. We've used the sticker method at the national office when we've had a lot of good stock, but an address that has changed. I guess it's up to each individual.

BTW - Thanks for being the first one to post!

Unless there is a conflict with the old URL, I would suggest the site administrator set up redirects. I see FCAVBR's old URL goes to your custom 404 page, so no conflict there.

The lifeblood of the web is durable URLs.

If you need a volunteer, I will raise my hand to script you a bunch of static pages which will automatically redirect people coming to old directory links to the new pages. While it may not fit tidily in the new, database-driven design, it will fit. (I have a toolbox of large hammers, trust me.)
