The FCA has created online forums to encourage discussion and the exchange of ideas and experiences among funeral consumers. Note that you must be a registered user of the site in order to post to the forum threads. To register, visit our home page and click "create an account" on the lower left-hand corner. There's also a Help section in the forums you can click on below.
For those who want a more detailed discussion with funeral consumer advocates and concerned industry people, try our email-based discussion list. To join the list, email: firstname.lastname@example.org. NOTE! - you must put the word gazelle in the subject line (this cuts down on spam-bots trying to join the list).
Not sure this post fits here, but several years ago an affiliate had board discussions about degree to focus on economizing on funeral costs, which we had been mentioning a good deal.
After dialog, we decided our role was to help members and the public match their values with their resources. And that this should be done in the context that no one is getting ripped off.
Thus, those who want and can afford a $12,000 casket should get it, as long as they are paying a fair market price after bargaining, while those who want a plain pine box should have that. Neither case was considered 'better' in our role as consultants and educators.
The issue of values is a worthy one too, but our first responsibility was to create an informed consumer who could enter the market competently.
