Logos in the Lonestar State-2012

E-mail Print

6/20/2012—Kudos to Jim Bates of the FCA of North Texas for getting the state to require funeral homes to tell the consumer the price they're paying newspapers for the column-inches taken up by the funeral home's logo. Most families have no idea they're paying for the funeral home to advertise itself, and obituaries are dearly priced these days.

The Texas Funeral Service Commission passed the following rule:

203.7 (b) (8) Logos. If a funeral provider's graphically illustrated logo or a bold listing is to be included in an obituary, the funeral provider shall list separately the additional cost, if any, related to the inclusion of such logo in the cash advance portion of the statement of goods and services.
